Whaler RAU IX 1 : 45 - Graupner

Thank you for the tip. I think I'll try the fine sand for bird cages first, this sand is extremely fine. A friend of mine did it with sand and I'm really excited.

I'm still testing the top coat a little bit, so I'll start with the whale winch in between. These are the individual parts from the fitting set. Sequel follows.

Hello, I finished the test with the grit today and I'm very satisfied, pictures will come when the deck is finished.

In the meantime I continued with the winch and deburred the parts and painted the first parts

The first test is over and I'm satisfied so far.....I vacuumed off the loose sand and discovered that the sand wasn't stuck everywhere, ok I'll do better.
Then I'll finish the surface a bit and paint it and then we'll see.

Are your winch gears supposed to be operational or just for looks of the real winch?

I have learned with my other hobbies that if you have plastic gears driving a load, they need to be "Lapped" to give them a worn surface to mate with, gets rid of edge burs, I mixed some gritty powder with toothpaste or use automotive lapping compound for valves. Add this paste in the gears and spin both directions for several minutes and then wash them out and lube as normal.

Hello Kurt, I'm glad you're looking at my construction report. The winch will only be there for decoration. But I thank you for the tip. I will add the tip to my idea box.

Hello, a small upgrade. After the sand dried in the paint, I sanded the surface again with fine sandpaper and vacuumed the surface. Then I applied another coat of paint. Now the paint is still a bit shiny but when the paint is dry the surface will be matt. So I like it.

Since I want to operate my Rau partly with light, I looked for lights like the one in the first picture and didn't find anything. Only in our basement. So I will build my own lights. The second picture shows a valve cap from a bicycle, light in, works. However, the lights should not be round, but oval.
Picture 5 2 valve caps.
Picture 6 The valve caps shortened. Picture 7 The shortened valve caps glued together.
Figure 8 Sawed lengthwise. For the first time...fits.

Hello Wolle , I have a question ,what type of putty you use for the wooden hull of a model?
I search for a good one for soft wood ( obeche stips)
Kind regards,Daniel

Hello Daniel
The hull of my Rau is made of plastic, but the superstructure is made of wood and I filled them with Clou filler from a tube. I'm actually quite happy with that.

Hello today I would like to introduce you to my whaler RAU IX. I bought the easy started kit on ebay. That means the hull has been shaped, including the engine, frames and rudder. The deck is also almost finished and still needs to be glued in place. Everything else I need is included, including the fittings. Since I continued with the construction a while ago, I will describe the construction progress at the beginning and let you know when I have reached the current status.

Thank you very much, I asked for money from my loved ones and immediately ordered the pilot boat "Britannia" from Mountfleet Models. When I get it, I'll introduce it.
