Whaler RAU IX 1 : 45 - Graupner

Hello today I would like to introduce you to my whaler RAU IX. I bought the easy started kit on ebay. That means the hull has been shaped, including the engine, frames and rudder. The deck is also almost finished and still needs to be glued in place. Everything else I need is included, including the fittings. Since I continued with the construction a while ago, I will describe the construction progress at the beginning and let you know when I have reached the current status.

First I made the coaming for the deck and glued it on. The deck is not glued in yet, that will come much later.

It continues with the lower frame for the superstructure.

Next up was the superstructure. The first side walls were glued and fixed. So that everything fits on the deck afterwards, I also adapted it directly to the deck. To prevent the superstructure and the deck from being glued together, I put cling film between the deck and the superstructure.

The Rau from Graupner was one of my dreams when I was young, so I guess the kit is around 40 or 45 years old.
At this time I built together with my father the Bugsier and the Löschkreuzer Weser...... long time ago

Ok, last but not least, the wheelhouse. Now everything has to be sanded and then it will be painted at some point.

Then it was time to paint the fuselage. He gets a total of four colors. First came the hull, which turned green.

Then the second color, red, was painted.

Next up was the painting. The next color is black.

Last but not least, the white stripe was missing. On top of that came a few more coats of matt clear coat. Then I treated myself to a brass screw, the red plastic screw didn't work at all.

Then I distributed a good 3 kg of small lead balls in the hull and put the Rau in the bathtub and trimmed the ship. Then I fixed the lead with epoxy resin. So that was the past, now back to the present. All I'm posting now is the current build status. It may also take a while until the next report comes, because it's summer now, we've got 30 degrees with sunshine right now and we have a house with a garden. So you always have something to do. Despite everything, I'll be back because I feel very comfortable in this forum, everyone is very nice and respectful. Thanks again.

Very nice project Wolle. Your photo of the partial bullheads around the machinery space are a good example of how to keep water out of the electronics area. It also helps hold and lock in the super structure while she is running in the water.
