Steam pinnace Janet

Hello All
This weekend I let go of my desilusions of perfection and started again working at Janet
I sanded the curved part of the keel and put a bit of wood on the other side
Now is straight again and I decided to put an 5 x 10 mm strip of walnut on top
Next challenge was the rudder what is tilted a liiitle bit from vertical .For this I get a brass strip on the last part of the keel .
After finishing the keel and bow will put fiberglass and resin and paint the hull

Happy new Year to all!
Today between some house cleaning and chores I did a little work at Janet
Last week I finished my little workbench 36 x 55 cm with a vise -a total game changer
Now I have space to plane a strip of wood and more .
I worked the keel in 3 parts .

Hello All ,
In Romania was a 3 day holyday sa I return to Janet once more.
First thing I glued a keel from 3 fragments
After I finished gluing the last 2 pieces of the hull at the fore20230605_133537.jpg20230605_142316.jpg20230605_165023.jpg20230605_174707.jpg20230605_175839.jpg.
The good part of this pause was I get to see my model with new eyes and discovered one beginner mistake -my fore cabin was designed wrong .
Back to drawing a bit and after I dry fit my new middle wall
Kind regards ,Daniel

Hello Kurt!
I was talking about my level of knowledge , At your first model you projected is a little utopic to believe it will be perfect.
And the evolution of my model proved it
But I will continue and see where this lead

Hello All ,
Today I glued the fore cabbin and did the little adjustement necesary .
Initially I wanted to glue the strips on the plywood faces but because they are courved I will do it in the model .This way it wil be simpler in a way .
Glad to be one step further
Kind regards,Daniel20230610_104959.jpg20230610_110622.jpg20230610_110630.jpg20230610_110919.jpg20230610_101856.jpg

Hello All,
A little progress today

I need an advice , my port holes are from AMATI https://hobbytools.ro/hublou-navomo...sticla-pt-navomodele-15mm-interior-amati.html
The problem is they are for installing in interior with the one piece mobile
If i put them outside they look too bulky
Is an option to put only the frame without the moving part ?
the interior will be 1 mm policarbonate translucent
I did the roof support for the fore cabin and a little rc gear positioning
Kind regards,Daniel20230617_184706.jpgIMG-20200923.jpg.jpeg20230618_085043.jpg20230618_085116.jpg20230618_090702.jpg

Hello All ,
I founded a better solution for waterproof windows and I get an plicarbonate 1 mm sheet to be glued on the inside of the cabin.
next step was to make the big cabin wall to the middle of the ship.
after that will be glueing the aft cabin lateral walls
That will help with the dry fit the deck .
Kind regards ,Daniel20230619_223127.jpg20230620_065048.jpg20230620_065056.jpg20230620_065102.jpg20230620_065117.jpg

Hello All
I have a moral dilemma -
to cut corners or not.
For the deck in middle section the easy approach is to print on cartboard the image and glue on the plywood and after several coats of varnish no one will know
The convoluted approach is to make a embossing tool and put the hammer to work one row at the time on a thin sheet of aluminium .
Problem appear after the deed because the intention is to make the ship resistent to splashes and rain and how is possible to varnish the aluminium plates glued to plywood?
Any Advice is appreciated
Daniel

G'day Daniel, I had to use some chequered plate on my Steam Drifter, I used some of the Plastic Straps for going around cardboard cartons,

I used CA Super Glue to hold it down, I got mine from one of the store's that sell TV's and fridges, you can cut it with siccors, it comes in different widths, I managed to get some approx one inch wide, hope this helps you out, I also managed to buy some steam dial's but I have to find them hopefully in the next day,

Best regards John,

Thank you for your replay,.John
Plastic was in the options but some varhish are melting plastic so .....
One other option wil be after fine sanding to give a coat or more of zpoxy
With that have to make some piece for try before apply on the whole model .
A lot to think
Daniel
