Last week I was fortunate to make a sailing trip on the Stad Amsterdam from Rotterdam to Hamburg. The Stad Amsterdam is a Dutch build clipper ship from 2000 owned by Randstad and the city of Amsterdam. She is used for sea voyages and promotional activities for the joined owners. You can book sailing trips or even luxury cruises.
I luckily was in time to join this 4 day adventurous sailing trip from Rotterdam to Hamburg under full sail during beautifull weather. Joining the watch system and for me the 12.00 -4.00 watch during the night and day was a fantastic experience.
During the watch you help to set sails, trim sails, remove sails, stand on the look out or on the wheel.
You get training on deck how to sail and set sail on a square rigged ship. You also get climbing training to get into the rigging, on longer trips you can eventually help on the yards.
It is a wonderfull experience and you make a lot of new friends. I will certainly try to again join them in the future.
Diring the morning briefing I heared somebody saying my name from the shore and there was our friend @Ptèr who lives close to the Rotterdam berthing of the ship.
See below some of my pictures.
