Description

56ft Wooden Torpedo Boat, hull number WTB12, built by JS White, Cowes in 1888 for the Royal Navy. Representative of a series of wooden torpedo boats (12 units). Torpedo boats of this type were intended to arm the battleships and cruisers of the British fleet and were the standard picket boat of the fleet until 1906.

J. Samuel White wood TBs

The first nine were ordered in 1883, another two in 1887, and the last on 1888. Unlike the Thornycroft and Yarrow boats, they were wooden-hulled and were precursors of the 56ft steam pinnaces which superseded the Second Class steel boats (in a multi-role function).

Photo Etch & other Parts. The PE Parts are 2 layered and with very good details. It would have been nice to get these a bit more clean but Aceton will do the job I guess. There is a lot of metalwork on this boat. Will be fun.

Conclusion

Personally, I am more and more attracted to smaller, atypical kits that not "everyone builds", that don't take years of time. Falconet, like other Russian manufacturers, always offers beautiful small models here that produce great results with high-quality materials and a reasonable price. Unfortunately it has become difficult to purchase these kits, but at SOS (https://shipsofscale.com/) you can get in touch with @Walterone who is very happy to help and make contact and handle the process, which has always worked without a hitch. Thanks Vladimir!

Pro
  • Pear Wood
  • Unusual Vessel
  • Lots of Brass Parts in High Quality
  • Scale 1:48
  • High Quality Photo Etch sheet
  • IMO very good Image based Manual

Contra
  • Double-barreled Nordenfelt gun, Torpedoes and Arrays are missing in this basic version (I will get them later for another review when they are ready hopefully :))

Check out the Instruction Manual here:

Basically a 100% buy recommendation.

My sincere thanks go to Falconet for sending this kit for review on Dubz Modelling World and SOS.

Nothing new with Falconets quality here, it is good as usual. This is by far their most complicated kit.
One thing Dubz did not mention is the accuracy of the model. It was developed with heavy involvement
of "Steam Torpedo Boats" (you can see their oval shield on the box), a notorious "rivet counter". So yes, you
have a excellent quality kit but also a model that, once built, is historically and technically accurate.
Doubt you can get your hands on the armament with all that's going on right now. You can source 3D prints
in the same scale for guns.
