Hi, could someone please recommend where I can buy round files 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 mm? I need high quality files to tool out some grooves for stropping the rigging blocks made of wood.
I don't think you can find files for such small sizes (I have never seen such). However, look for the escapement needle file. althought they are tapered but can be as small as 0.3mm at the beginning and 1.9mm at the end.
This one made by Corradi (Italy), but I know Grobbet and Vallorbe (Swiss) made them as well. Most jewerly store should carry them. They comes on diffrent cuts, from #0 (very coarse) to #5 (very fine).

I did a google search of 0.4mm files and got several links, most were dental equipment companies, but Micro-Mark listed a set Item #: 83180 for about $25 as 12 files with handle.
May @dockattner can provide a good source.

Yes would work for cutting slots in sides of blocks, but very limited in use otherwise. Expensive for single purpose tools.

I still use small millers for such a job, but you need experience for that, because it could go easely wrong. I have very small ones and even the circuit board drills could be helpfull. Like I said, experience is needed.
Another cheap solution coould be the use of jigsaw saws.

There are also files for Dentist you can buy, very small ones. On Aliexpress they are very cheap to buy, and we don't need to file teeth but just wood. It seems that these files when they bent, get straight in hot water. Just google and I think they perfect for the job. I got a few in my drawer, the smallest is around 0,4 mm.
They are called Endo files or K-files, 2 kind of types for use. One like the picture for manually use and also for rotary dentist drill.

If you want a narrow slotting file it is bound to be expensive. However piercing saw blades are cheap and come in many widths. With a short length of one of these held in a pin-vice you can do many things. Here's the blade thickness chart.

Following up from an earlier post: dental files are not what we want for our hobby.
I cannot use this as it produces a square slot. I need a round slot.
Unfortunately these are a square profile tools. They are used to enlarge the round holes by inserting them into a hole, rotating and pushing them in. They are not designed for filing. Ones I checked did not even have an abrasive surface - just the bare steel.

yes a bare steel - and a square cross section - I am using them by turning in small holes and the edge is scrapping the hole.
f.e. slightly widing a hole in a wooden block - these are the problems I am using them
BTW: over the length the cross section is getting a little bit wider so you can produce every hole diameter you want and need
