wood stains

For those of you who have issues with wood stains how inconsistent they are when applied, I have been using leather dye by eco flow It is carried by Tandy leather it has worked great for me the dye color is Tite in the grain of the wood when applied and very consistent. It has a mellow sheen when buffed with a rag after it dries which is quick! I do not like wide grain variances in color on my model ships as it looks out of scale! and my experience has been with using stains I get the inconsistent color; I have only used it on small areas like masts yards railings those kinds of parts I am not a fan of staining large areas on models as I like the natural wood color
