It’s a really great read. Goes into details about the business of merchant shipping of the era. It really shows that the economic factors are really what killed the clipper, and that it is probably for the best due to the human cost. The limits of the wooden ship in terms of safety and durability were exposed in the clipper. That technology had been taken as far as it could go all things considered. Now that other factors such as sustainability come into play we may see a reversal to again using sail where it can best be used. I follow the EcoClipper on Instagram. I have more to learn about it, but I find it fascinating.
