Hi folks. ( She 'the on who must be' has been obeyed. )
While I have been doing a bit of research on Royal Navy trawlers I kept myself busy with VM's little fifie. I built her to the plan of 'The True Vine ML 20' shown in Sailing Drifters, although I have changed her name to Si which is gaelic for She. I did not do a progress log as the kit is very like the one of the Zulu I done in the past. However I have made some changes, particularly the steering mechanism, the kit had a wheel that would not have looked out of place on a frigate so I made a smaller one out of scrap brass and put it to a worm gear that I built from scratch and is described in Sailing Drifters. The build took me a touch longer than I expected but that was most likely down to me fracturing my collar bone, there is no fool like an old fool!
Any way I have shown Si as I think she might have looked in harbour. The kit was a Christmas present from my wife last year and I had forgotten about it until now. I see her a bit later in her career, she has had a few ups and downs, a scratch here and there, one or two make-overs and more coats than an onion has skins. She looks a bit beamier these days but that must be an illusion for surely she is as she was built. I quite like her.

Here are some pictures I hope you like her, too.

Ah well looks like I won't be walking through the pillars of fire. At least not for another year!
Cheers JJ..

If I could give you 2 'Love' reactions I would do it! I am in love with those small boats, they have so much charm, IMHO. You made an awesome model and brought life aboard Si. This example of fine modeling should trigger others to build small boats!!

BTW, we missed your build log, badly... Is it possible to make a fast-forward log with building stages?

Good morning Jack. Brilliantly modelled. I have said it before however it is worth repeating. I love your style which makes your models so realistic, it’s like a “used” slightly weathered look and immaculately pulled off. You have skills Jack. Cheers Grant

Thank you for your kind words Jim, unfortunately I didn't take any photos while I was building Si but if anyone is thinking of building this kit I will be happy to answer any quires about the build. However if things go well I will be starting a build log on a ww2 Naval trawler in 1/48 scale this weekend, should be fun.
Kind regards Jack

Hi Grant, hope you are keeping well and SA win the world cup, you boys have to be good at something;). Thanks for liking the wee drifter, they are quick and great fun to build and as I have said before a good reminder of the brave men who sailed them in the worst of conditions. My hats off to them.

Cheers JJ..

Good afternoon Jack. Thanks. Whew it was a close call against France and England but 1 point does get us through. Epic final coming and here in SA we have been waiting for this match since 1995. All Blacks are on form right now and we did splutter against England - holding thumbs :D . Cheers Grant

Jack, I really appreciate your style of modelling. Well done! I also enjoy the use of figures as it gives us a perspective of size. Where do you find these figures????
Hi, Thanks for the nice comments. The figures do give a bit of perspective, it's hard to believe that these big luggers where crewed by five men a boy and more often than not a dog! The figures come from the company who made the kit,( Vanguard Models ), they are 3D printed and they make them in any size you want.

Cheers JJ..

A splendid modeling job. I love the hard working, humble vessels that do the world’s work. And, when modeled as well as you have done, recreate a sense of our past.

Fantastic build!
Always love when figures are added - they bring scale and life into a project!
I would love to find figures for ship models in multiple scales and time periods...

As mentioned by JJ, Vanguard Models has a selection of figures, some in scale of choice, made of resin. I might grab one or two myself.

A lovely little ship, Jack. With nice fishing attributes.

Hi Jack, An absolute cracking job, love it, well done.

When I looked the pics I put up I didn't like the fore mast sitting on the crutch nor the way the sail was furled, (fishermen aren't the Royal Navy but still), so I unrolled it and did a redo. I think things look better now.

If you are wondering where the crew went, well they sold their catch and are of to the pub for the second half Utd. and City. But the did leave Trigger to watch the boat!

Cheers JJ..
