Good Day, what was the typical size of sheets or strips used to copper a hull? I want to get the detail right for the nails and borders. Getting ready to work on that part of my Flying Cloud.

Hello! I used 4mm copper strips. I did not cut plate by plate and put the whole strip. I don't know if the scale would be correct but it's not bad at all. The model is the CSS Alabama at 1/120 scale.

Longridge gives a method in his book "The Anatomy of Nelson's Ship" however, to my mind it is very finicky and I suspect quite tediously difficult to carry out and personally I'd be trying something simpler!

Thanks, I also found the typical size in "The American Built Clipper" great...and spendy referance to have.
