I’m in the process of restoring a vintage wooden NOVA French Pond Boat. Mostly new sails and rigging. Seems like when they were made simple square knots tied to metal loops imbedded in the mast and various parts of the deck surfaces is the manner in which the sails and rigging were tied down. Should other types of knots or rigging hardware be more appropriate? Thanks. Jim

a warm welcome here on board of our forum
Maybe you show us some close up photos of the rigging, so some specialists here can make some suggestions

I did buy this model boat at a flea market so it’s possible the owner may have tied some the rigging himself merely to keep it “in place” in order to sell it. However, I believe many of the knots are original. I also think it’s safe to assume that since the pond boat was a toy, so so speak, that the type of details utilized in a detailed replica of a historical boat would not be there or be needed. In any case I’m happy to restore to its original state as a simple model pond boat. Enclosed please find closeups of some of the original rigging knots. These same knots were used on the sails. When purchased, the boat only had two sails.
