Model Shipways #3 Muscongus Bay lobster smack!

I have some of the original Midwest Products kits, and to make the seats look upgraded, my mentor at local hobby shop showed me to get narrow strips and glue on top of plywood seats, to make them look like they were made from strips of wood instead of plywood. Added a bit of nice detail for low cost and time.

That looks awesome! Thanks for the suggestion!

You might see if you can get some strips of other types wood, like Walnut, Cherry or Boxwood, to give color contrast.

Some here have called that method painting with wood.

I just might look into that. I'll get to try out my new mini saw.

Fortunately for me, many of my tools cross over from one hobby to another, ship building, HO model trains and some woodworking, not to mention true justification for a new power tool, the Honey Due List! If the Admiral says I need to due it she can't argue about the tools I need to get it done.

I’ll be following this closely, as I have been working on this boat for a while (ready to place the first garboard). What a great resource!

While binge watching Horatio Hornblower I’m trying to work through getting the hull blanking almost there! Have to glue #8 and fit and glue #9 before getting to the sheer strake! All fun getting it done!

Planking and sheer strake is done although not perfect, it is fixable as it is also hide able with a little putty and paint! After that moving on to the toe rails and rub rails!

Although I might have made a mistake and caused my own problems by not installing the central plank underneath the transom as it was directed by in the instructions!

Dry meat and symmetrical.

After sealing the wood with Model Expo , 3 coats I then applied their primer and can now see the little imperfections! Some thin spots are bubbling up and hopefully they will tighten up! I see I’m going to have to do some hull work with putty!
I also built a little stand to sit the keel in so I can work on the top!

I also just purchased but on back order the Model Shipways USS CONSTITUTION ON SALE ALMOST HALF PRICE I couldn’t pass it up!

Over the weekend boat building! Moving forward I installed the cabin roof and hatch, and roof rails and beak! There were a few fit problems some self inflicted as you can see on the beak but thankfully ther is paint ! A fit problem around the cabin door and hatch but a little artistic license and some scrap wood and no one knows but me !
