My next project will be finishing a cross section of the H.M.S. Victory, from a kit by Corel. I bought it semi-finished online, and there is not much to do in order to get her finished. Unless I decide to improvise somewhere down the line. Let's see what happens
I'm adding the canon the Victory cross section, and I'm having a problem with the blocks. The picture on the left shows two blocks which together tie down one side of a canon. On the right picture, I attached them to the eyelets. As you can see, they are way to close together to nicely run rope through them. Ok, it is possible, but it doesn't look nice.
Basically, the hooks I made on/around the blocks (from 0.5mm brass wire) are too large. I had the same issue on the Royal Louis, and decided to use thread to tie the blocks to the eyelets. That saves up just another 1.5mm or so, and that does the job. But I'd like to figure out how to do it with brass wire. Do you have any suggestions or examples?
I have (tried) other ways to create more space btw:
make the eyelets a bit more oval
move the canon backwards a bit
the eyelet on the canon is as far backward as possible
Side note: these are the big canon: the ones on the other decks are pretty much impossible to fit
