GORCH FOCK by Mantua

I'm still here just haven't been able to put much time in to her. Managed to get the starboard side ratlines on the mainmast first level and second level done tonight and got 2 of the 4 levels of back stays in place. Cant believe it's been 10 days since I got to put some work in. 20221225_235205.jpg20221225_235215.jpg20221225_235315.jpg20221225_235329.jpg

Still slowly working on the GORCH FOCK. tonight I finally finished up on the rest of the ratlines on the mainmast and the back stays. So far I have tied 848 clove hitches for the ratlines. Even got to hang some running rigging blocks while I was at it too. I'm just shy of 175 hrs on this build so far and I figured o have at least another 600 clove hitches left to do cor the foremast. 20230106_235559.jpg20230106_235613.jpg20230106_235622.jpg20230106_235631.jpg20230106_235720.jpg20230106_235724.jpg

Good afternoon Derek. Wow. That is beautiful. You certainly are owning this. Cheers Grant

Hello Derek,

You are doing beautiful work. The Gorch Fock has always been a favorite of mine.

Bill
Hello Bill,
I was hesitant at first to get this kit but couldn't pass up for the price. I got it for 100$. It was one of the first ones I bought but it sat of the shelf for almost 2 yrs before I finally decided to tackle it. With that being said I'm glad I finally sat down to do this one. I absolutely love this kit. It by far has been a my favorite so far to do.

That's good to know about the kit. I have considered it several times.

Gotten a few more lines put one for the yards. Even managed to get one mocked up but now is my predicament I'm in now. Do I put them straight forward or do I angle them to the side? Input is great appreciated on this matter. 20230111_002314.jpg20230111_002328.jpg20230111_002648.jpg20230111_002635.jpg

Well when I'm not working on my GORCH FOCK, I'm either working or at the gym or a new hobby canning. Just finished 30 jars of satsuma jelly and have about a dozen left to do View attachment 345831
Canning is my wife’s hobby. She gives most away to friends and family from our garden and only asked for return of empty jars for next season

Hi Derek!

In Germany it is a nautical term "Vierkant brassen". Hopefully, the correct translation is "Square the yards". The yards are set at a 90 degree angle to the keel. When sailing, the wind comes from astern. This position is also used in the harbor without sails and is also common on sailing ship models.

Best regards
Thomas

Since this model doest come with sails and I'm not going to spend over 150$ for them from mantua. I figured I'd do her up like she was in harbor.

was considered the best maintained ship in the world.
Ja Ja - and years later she was an such a bad condition, that she had to be renovated for 165 billion Euros
