GORCH FOCK by Mantua

Got the rest of the railing for the deck on the stern done. Each and every place where the railing passes through the stanchions is soldered. This took forever. Started putting down deck furniture too on the stern still have more before continuing on to the bow. 20221112_210038.jpg20221112_210043.jpg20221112_210046.jpg20221112_235519.jpg20221112_235547.jpg20221112_235559.jpg20221112_235611.jpg20221112_235626.jpg

Looking very goodThumbs-Up! I may have missed it in your log but did you caulk the deck planks with thread or use a pencil/marker (also for the joints)?

This is exactly the type of ship I like to do so, after seeing your log I managed to buy one off Ebay very cheap so it will be my next build after my current project.

No sir I didnt caulk the decking with thread like in the past shops I have done. The decking was way to out of scale so I went to hobby lobby and picked up some bass wood strips. I used Danish oil on the decking and the basswood soaked it up perfectly to simulate caulking. And you can see that the lower rubbing strake is actually some of that same basswood strips I didnt care for the smaller one that came with the kit 20221113_170320.jpg20221113_170447.jpg

Got a good bit done today. Got all the davit arms hung and got more of the turnbuckles in place on the main deck.
Even managed to get a photo of me holding her to give perspective on the size she will be.
Also got some more furniture put on to the main deck and started the railings at the bow of her. 20221113_150851.jpg20221113_150855.jpg20221113_150931.jpg20221113_150939.jpg20221113_165740.jpg20221113_223239.jpg20221113_223245.jpg20221113_223249.jpg20221113_223303.jpg20221113_223342.jpg

It certainly gives a nice deck effect. I will take that on board when I get to my build. Thanks.

At just over 120 hrs so far. I have finished the portside railings at the bow. And gotten just about all the deck furniture on. I have about 20 more turnbuckles to put on the main deck and I have to hang the Lifeboats then I'll be starting on the masts. 20221114_230229.jpg20221114_230237.jpg20221114_230252.jpg20221114_230302.jpg20221114_230316.jpg20221114_230329.jpg20221114_230444.jpg20221114_230617.jpg20221114_230650.jpg
