GOLDEN HIND by Occre [COMPLETED BUILD]

Got the base back from a friend that has a plainer. Spalted Tamarind base with purple heart boarder. Sanded down with 320 and the 600 grit then hot with steel wool. And now has 1 coat of Danish oil on it. Might throw another on later.

Also the handrails that came with the kit I didnt care for so I decided to scratch build them out of some scraps. The top piece is the one that came with the kit and the bottom ones are the ones I made. 20220204_201501.jpg20220204_201506.jpg20220204_201512.jpg20220204_202027.jpg20220204_202030.jpg20220204_202033.jpg20220204_202038.jpg20220204_211543.jpg20220204_211553.jpg

Quite a bit of work today. Finished putting the rest of the vertical strakes on. Got the cat heads in place, changed them up from what the plans called for. Didnt like the white wood so changed them to African walnut and put bolts through it to secure in place. Also got the first set of grating put together and in place. Didn't care for the white wood on this either so when with a sapelli grating. Painted the area under the grating black. And put a coat of light walnut stain on the whole thing. And my anchors came in the mail today, swapping out the white metal for these bad boys. 20220207_105225.jpg20220207_105231.jpg20220207_121533.jpg20220207_132251.jpg20220207_132257.jpg20220207_144612.jpg20220207_145649.jpg20220207_150323.jpg20220207_213532.jpg20220207_213547.jpg20220207_213555.jpg20220207_213603.jpg20220207_214619.jpg

Hi Gibby, Just come across you log, It’s a very well presented one, interestingly presented and with a good build as well. Thanks for taking the time to show it and please keep it up.

Thank you. I came across this forum through one of the groups I'm in on Facebook and figured I'd show on here aswell.

Got all the dummy cannons in blackened and in place. Got the cannon doors installed on the stern of the ship. Worked on some more of the bits for the deck. Got the belay pins in place on the bow deck. And got more of the belay pin racks installed, 2 more to go. And got the cannon doors cut and sanded. Most of everything I'm making from scratch with scrap wood. 20220208_160800.jpg20220208_160808.jpg20220208_160815.jpg20220208_160825.jpg20220208_160838.jpg20220208_201510.jpg20220208_201526.jpg20220208_201546.jpg

Good morning Derek
Fantastic. Your ability to produce this quality, and progress so quickly is admired. Those times when you can work exclusively on your ship are treasured. I love your stain color. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers

Thank you. Yes the times I get to work on it is few and far between. With work and the gym usually I can only work on it when I'm off of work. So I try to make the best use of said time that I can dedicate to it.
