I have this kit in my stash and on my to do list. I will probably start it in the next few months. It has come to my attention that the model in the box is nowhere near being an accurate representation of the Lexington. I am not especially interested in building or having a model of the Lexington but I do want to build this model The person that told me that this kit isn't the Lexington only knows what it is not leaving the true identity of the ship Mamoli created a mystery. So, what name do I give this model when it is done? I posted this question on another forum several days ago and so far no one has responded. I hope someone familiar with this kit can shed some light on the matter. I would like to give it the name of a ship that most closely matches the hull and rigging of the model. I have a book "The History of American Sailing Ships" by Howard Chapelle copyright 1935 in which he mentions several brigs of war but only a couple of drawings, the Somers and the Bainbridge which don't seem that close to the ship in the kit. If anyone can refer me to a publication that might shed some light on the matter please do. Or if someone can state without hesitation that the model is a work of fiction and does not represent any ship type of the period and that my quest is futile I can live with that too.
