Hi Guys, and yes this is a New Thread.
But I’m really wanting Help and Information on the Schooner America.
And yes Billings have a kit, but I also want to know if anyone else has a kit.
And no I don’t want to Scratch Build, or build from a Plan sheet.
And like my African Queen Thread, this has fond memories for me as a young boy.
Well not of this boat ‘America’, but of the Americas Cup, and all the Australian Challengers that tried win the Cup.
And starting with our first challenger ‘Gretel’ in 1962
I can remember standing in the shower in the mornings, in the bathroom and listening to the radio of the races, yes the best of 7.
Yes this was before TV here.
And I was 13.
And Melbourne has different time to that of America.
And then all our subsequent challengers until we finally we won the cup in 1983, on the last race helped by Ben Lexcen’s advanced Winged Keel design.
Could sail higher into the wind.
Oh want a day that was for all of Australia.
But sadly many Americans were not aware of / interested in the Americas Cup.
And I have a nice model of Australia II and a big framed print of Australia II crossing the line ahead of Liberty.

Anyway, back to my inquiry, have you built the Billings kit, is there more kits available.
And yes I also like the Bluenose, but for a new guy, I like the slightly simpler sails / rigging on the America.
