Hi everyone I was supposed to be working on the Blandford but Santa brought me a new small hopefully quick build kit of a 1/48 scale longboat. It seems to be on several Chinese kits and so will hopefully fit in with the Blandford when finished
I am not going to do a blow by blow account probably just this one post
It starts with building the frame that all the ribs fit. This is quite a simple 3 part thing that all aligned well, the ribs then were fitted to make an upside-down mould to fit the planks to.
I covered the edge with masking tape to hopefully stop the glue from sticking 20231218_110335.jpg20231218_111556.jpg20231218_110335.jpg20231218_111556.jpg20240114_190137.jpg

Once all the ribs were fitted it was time to start the planking . These were very thin so didn't need much soaking but I couldn't find any way to use a clamp of any type so I used superglue to hold the first few planks not something that I like to use. Once I had fitted 3 or 4 planks from the keel and 2 from the gunnels I removed it from the jig and cut off the extension pieces I could then use pva glue and some gentle clamping 20231228_104354.jpg20231223_135029.jpg20240105_150849.jpg

Once the Hull had been VERY CAREFULLY sanded the planks are only 1m thick !! the rest of the fittings could be fitted these were the supports for the thwarts and some brass supports for the oars there was also a bench area for the stern. These were all laser cut from various thickness of timber and fitted with very little adjustment. There were brass pieces for the rudder hinges
I enjoyed building this little kit it made a change from the long term larger kits that I have assembled before
As usual any comments criticism or suggestions will be welcomed20240108_154101.jpg20240115_162349.jpg20240115_162411.jpg20240115_162401.jpg
