Your RC is looking very exquisite Rick, beautiful colouring, painting and workmanship, lots of details to absorb, looking for to the rest of the build,

Hello everyone. Here's some more progress pics on the Knightheads & the Boomkins ( bumkins, or bumpkins) depending on your location. Unfortunately, the kit plans only show two general Deck views of the Boomkins and the original Draught plans from the Royal Museum in Greenwich show very little as well. I decided to go with this particular layout based on research of period built models of similar size & comparison (see additional photos). My research shows that most permanent placed Boomkins were set up to be placed in a opening in a Knighthead or a Bollard Timber and having the Boomkin angling downwards to help offset the tremendous upwards rigging forces of the Tack Blocks. I also placed the Leather 'Saddle' on the top edge of the Stem that the Bowsprit rest on.
Finalizing the Bow & more to come...................................................................

Dear Rick. I have been looking and looking and the more I look, the more I feel compelled to make one observation. Are you sure the scale on those seats of ease is correct? They look way too large and high to me.

Hahaha.... agree with you Heinrich, the sailors would fall in with a hole that large, but its easy to rectify.

But with all due respect, this is a superb model.

Dear Rick. I assume that this is a 1:30 scale figurine. I did not realize that it was such a tiny ship. The figure looks huge when viewed against the forecastle.

These are the seats of ease on the Batavia, where they look miniscule compared to the bowsprit and humans. All is good then.

Yes, the Royal Caroline wasn't a large sloop. The Batavia is almost twice as long.

That's funny Brian, you can just hear the Captain saying where's the Officer of the Watch and a head pop's up from the Dunny and says here I am,
Best regards John,

Hello everyone. I have started on the Fore & Main Larger Lower Deadeyes & the corresponding Strops. The Deadeyes that came with the kit are just absolutely Terrible!!!!!! I couldn't tell you for the Life of me what kind of wood was used, the 3 holes in each Deadeye are all over the place and each Deadeye is a different thickness, UGH!!!
My son gave me a Awesome Fathers Day Gift last year --A $$$$$$ gift to be used on any purchases I wanted for the Construction/Enhancement of this Royal Caroline!! So I purchased replacement 9mm Ebony Deadeyes from the Company 'Dry-Dock Models & Parts'. These Deadeyes are Very Nice!!! They are extremely detailed and the Tapered Holes are extremely accurate. I purchased some other items from this company that I will go over at the appropriate time. Using 22 gauge untreated round bare Copper, Silver Solder & Brass Black for the Strops. Thought I would throw in a couple pics of my controlled Chaos work bench while I do the Solder work, LOL. Only us model builders understand this type of Chaos..........

Hello everyone,
Finally got some time to download some progress pics. I just recently got all the Channels & Backstay Channels and all corresponding Chain Plates completed & installed on the Port and Starboard sides (UGH-Time consuming for sure!!!).
Next item up is the construction of the Anchor Chafing Boards. The kit provided ones are out of scale.

Hello everybody,
Just a quick post showing the progress on the Anchor Chafing Boards. I decided to make new ones because the kit provided pieces are a little out of scale & too thick. Installing these is a little more involved then folks realize because, like a Hulls Plank that twist & turn, the Chafing Board must follow the same curve as the Plank.
I'll post more final pics shortley.
