Folks, Peter's mention of using M.6x6 and M.8x5 screws and nuts reminded me of a place where I have bought very credible miniature hardware-like stuff over the years.
<<http://rbmotion.com/rbmshop_3.0/index.php?route=product/category&path=94>> This points to just one product in the site so check his index on the left edge of his site.
This guy caters to the automotive modeling hobby and machines tiny stuff meant for 1/24, 1/18, and 1/12 race car models; stuff like nut bolt heads, ball rod ends, and other various technical hardware. His false (no threads) bolts and nuts get down pretty small.
Sure, it's not boat modeling but looking is free; you might just find that one bitty piece you've agonized months over.
EDIT:
I ought add that I get my actually-threaded tiny bolts and nuts from
<<https://model-motorcars.myshopify.com/collections/small-parts-hardware>> in Florida.
I'm always looking for more sources for modeling materials so I'd like to learn where you guys get your mini hardwares if anyone would care to post that.
