New on your bookshelf ..... show it here

Just received my copy of James Lees’ “The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War”.
It was “New” still in plastic wrap.

Personally thought that was pretty neat!

Thanks Uwek.
It’s a very interesting and informative tome for everything related to rigging. However I have found that my nautical vocabulary is very lacking as Lees uses many terms to identify items for which I have no reference or idea what he is talking about. For example what is a “Catharpins” and where are they used?

Thank You Stephan.
The pictures you provided are the first time I’ve seen catharpins. I guess all the kits I have built and seen just leave those off (which is not unusual).
It’s a good day when you learn something new! :)

My latest acquisition as a companion to “The Masting and Rigging…”
I might need to make a new bookcase for my growing library. Hmmm, something to think about.
you can never have enough books
A very interesting book to understand sailing ships and their handling

For everybody interested here is a book review of

THE ROYAL DOCKYARDS 1690 - 1850
by Jonathan G. Coad.
H/B 400 pages.

In my opinion this is a Superb insight into the Royal Naval Dockyards not just in Britain but abroad as well, with 375 plates to view from all eras, as well as an abundance of written information on each department of engineering etc.. that made the Royal Navy.

Below is just a snippet of information from this wealth of information.
