Happy New Year! We are pleased to announce more than 150 official US Navy and Royal Navy plans of many popular ships and submarines are now available for free download from the Model Monkey catalog. The plans are scans of original shipyard and builders' plans of the actual ships and submarines, not plans of models.
To download plans, go to the
"Ship Plans" catalog page then choose the plans you want from those listed (click here). Add the plans to your cart as though they were models, then checkout normally. You will be sent links by email to download the drawings at no cost to you. Plans are large *.pdf or *.jpg files but no more than 40 MB each.
Most plans are scans of original US Navy Booklet of General Plans drawings from the collections of the US National Archives and Records Administration at College Park, Maryland. Some were obtained from the US Department of Transportation. We extend our sincere appreciation to the NARA and US DoT staff, and the many generous private citizen researchers, who continue to dedicate considerable time, personal resources and effort to find, preserve and make these plans available to the public and posterity.
These plans are in the public domain and can be downloaded directly from NARA or US DoT. But the NARA collection is vast and difficult for most people to access and search. So, we have made a selection of NARA and DoT shipyard plans of popular ship modeling subjects easily obtainable from Model Monkey at no cost.*
Subjects include popular US naval ships dating from 1797 through the mid-20th Century such as USS Constitution, USS Monitor, USS Arizona BB-39, USS Missouri BB-63 and many more. There are also a few Royal Navy subjects, including a Tribal class destroyer, Flower class and Castle class corvettes, a River class frigate, and an Attacker (Bogue) class escort carrier.
* No cost paid to Model Monkey. Your internet service provider may apply data charges for downloads.
