Hello everyone! I would like to introduce myself. My name is Attila, I live in Austria, and I would like to share my second ship model with you, my first ship was a HMS Victory Kit from Corel. Started in 2019 and It took me 1.5 years to complete it. Ship modeling was a completely new territory for me and I used basic tools. . This year, I got inspired again and started building the Black Pearl ZHL Golden Edition ship just couple of weeks ago. I share my experiences and build logs maybe helpful for some of you, planning to build the same kit.

Hallo Attila,
first of all a warm welcome here on board of our forum.
Good work on your Victory - especially when it is your first build a very good result
I am looking forward to see your next one - we will try to help and assist or also enjoy your progress reporting in this log.
From where in Austria you are coming?

A little bit lately but I dont had much time to post my build. I alredy started to build the Black Pearl. I will try to share my experiences. I choose this kit because I like Pirates of the caribbean and it has cool lights, and the option to enhance the lights. I do not find much Information how to assemble correctly the circuit for the ship, so I have learned the basics to create a circuit map for the leds. I used 9v Battery with 5mm yellow flickering leds as I have seened in another posts as an idea. I will share later the simple circuit map created with a free tool, could be helpful to recreate for others. The start is very straightforward and the pieces fitting very well to each other. I predriller the holes for the cables before gluing the pieces together.

This is the Circuit map I created.
I use 9V battery with 18 Flickering leds. From left (rear side of the ship) to right ( Front side ). With this Setup they require 212,67 ma. With a simple 200 ma 9V battery they can work approximately 1 hour. But there are available 9V batteries with more power I Think.Screenshot_20240430_172132_P R O T O.jpg

I made a few photos from the Leds and setup. The middle part was a problem of course. To place the leds in the center and make enough light to the left and right side also I drilled 6,5mm holes for the lampshades. This way has a great position for the light. I choose a small Dc 2,5 mm as an output and glued on middle part, making it more stable I glued small woodden parts around it. Need to left a few mm for the planking to have the same, this way will be on the same position as the planking later.

Attaching the sides and other parts was not much of a problem. Manual has great instructions to do so. After this I started with the first planking. This was a very time consuming part of the build. I do not have any bending tool. I only using water soaking method and using nails and clips to fit the planks. It was not perfect of course so I filled up and sanding the rest of my failures.

The first planking took some weeks but it is done for now. I had some troubles on the rear side. I can show it on an other picture later. I build the captain cabin with the leds in it and made some painting tests. I have no idea yet have it will be made but it is qurstion for later. I have attached 6 leds in the cabin part and I do not made pictures from the Setup because it had a terrible, unprofessional look but its working fine.

I started with the second planking 0.5mm planks, it was a little bit easier than the first one, lot of cutting, gluing.

After planking the hull started the deck. By the way This is the rear side of the ship on the first picture, somehow the distance is smaller as it should, i hope this will be no problem later...

First I placed the planks in the middle and cut 2 small laminating film to cover the leds, and also protect them from work. The lights shining also better with this films seeing on the test third picture.

I realised later by the light test that the lights shining through the 3 canon holes
seeing on the 4. picture. Is it very bad this way or should I solve this? I can decide it later but I appriciate any ideas.

I cut the 0.5mm planks to 5 cm pieces and put them together in the following ways for a better look. Do not used the lenght in a whole, I have seen this method by other modellers, I found it great.

Thank you! I have attached the railings this week, and the side parts, this was not an easy work without bending tool.

Problem I have found on the front of the ship seen on first picture. I had to much space between the middle part and the sides somehow, and the right side has relased the glue. I have installd a small wooden plank to solve this, actually it looks also great this way. I dont know how it happened.

I have attached the railing and fill the small failures. The front was not really nice so i needed to fill there also a bit more.

This is the actual point I am working on and I'll start the first painting this week when I have some time. I appriciate any opinion or question about my progress.

The first painting attempt is done. I used only acryl painting and handpainted the hull, the deck only very carefully just make a bit more dark. The piece at the front and the railing was not an easy task but it looks ok.

I like the patchy look so I'll painted the small pieces and used sandpaper to polish them before gluing in place. I dont used nails for positioning, just glued them in place, and it holds relative great.
