What’s this rope do? (18th Century yacht)

They are called Rudder pendants and are there in case they lose the inboard tiller and they can use it for emergency steering, also they can be used to reposition the rudder if it comes adrift,

and on the sideview of the planset you can see this rope going up to the deck
