There is always something going on on the Elbe.

And it goes on.

Wreck of the coaster “Marie”

Built in 1928 in Veendamm (Holland) with a loading capacity of 50 tons.

The last owner was Captain Ferdinand Gustafson from Altenbruch. The "Marie" was used by Captain Gustafson from Altenbruch to transport wheat to Hamburg and coal from Hamburg.

The "Marie" transported its cargo through the Altenbruch lock on the Braakstrom to Osterstrasse in the center of the town. The “Marie” had a significant impact on the image of the small Altenbrucher harbor and the Braakstrom for many years.

On Sunday, March 25, 1945, the "Marie" hit an English sea mine near Krautsand and sank. Captain Gustafson was killed.

The wreck was recovered many years later and became an exhibit in the Cuxhaven Wreck Museum

displayed. In 2013, the wreck became a museum on the initiative of the “Altenbrucher Eiswette”.

Altenbrucher Hafen brought back. The "Marie" was one of the last transport ships that sailed the Braakstrom into the town center to supply the population with coal.

Looks like the Elbe is a never-ending source of passing classics. Thanks for recording them and passing the images along, they are endlessly fascinating!
Happy and Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year!
Love the pictures, they are a most welcome and appreciated diversion!

Hello Pete and all likers.
I'm glad if you like the pictures. And yes, on the Elbe, Weser and North Sea we have many dreamy little ports where many historic ships are moored and I haven't seen all the ports yet but it's my turn and I'll tell you. Next come fishing ships.

Wow! You surely are blessed to have such close proximity to these sights!
Thanks again for allowing us all to share in the benefit!

Hello, there is a yacht here. I discovered her on Gibraltar. Unfortunately I don't know what it's called. All I know is that it was upgraded in Bremerhaven. Note the yachts on the yacht.

Thank you. A lot of interesting tall ships with a variety of rigs. Has there been some sort of meet or do they just arrive as individuals?

Hello JJ and John
I'm glad if you like the pictures. Yes, every few years there is a “Sail” in Hamburg and Bremerhaven. These are big harbor festivals. Of course there are a lot of sailing ships there, but every now and then a sailor comes by. In Bremerhaven the next Sail is in 2025. And in Hamburg the port birthday is every year in May.

Hello, I have something bizarre here. A fast food restaurant with a real ship's hull as a roof. That's quite unique. I discovered the caravan in Cuxhaven. This has become a sales van for fish and fish rolls (matjes in a roll, hmmmmm delicious).
