S/S BORE

The oldest working icebreaker in the world

On June 11, 1894, the Malmö Port Authority ordered an icebreaker from Kockums Mekaniska Verkstad that would make the Aven suitable as a mail and passenger ship. Five months later she was ready for launch. The contract amount was 199,539 98 SEK

On Saturday, November 17th, at 11:00 a.m. she left the ship with the hull number 70. As the ship came into the water, harbor master Annerstedt called out its name “BORE”, which was greeted with cheers!

On Saturday, January 12, 1895, it was time for BORE's eight-hour sea trial. The icebreaker's speed was measured at 12.31 knots. They were very happy with the result and the ship was approved and handed over to the city of Malmö

The boiler has a fire area of 180 m² and was designed by Cochran in Scotland but manufactured under license by Kockums in Malmö.

Over its 128 years, BORE has been part of many adventures:

-Int as icebreaker during 74 Tangorde in Swedish Olegantan during World War II. During the period 1939 to 1945, HMS BORE was the only armored ship in the Øresund and was equipped with the tried and tested 57 mm flat-blade guns on the Rindick and a 40 m pocket gun on the quarterdeck

During the Besta varidge, BORE requested 1700 gel deliveries of its Mandlies without a single hour

Bemmingen was awarded lady royalty in 1897 in connection with the rescue of the crew of a Danish T-boat
