Looking for a source for detail drawings of the Victory as she was prior to the 1803 rebuild.
anyone know of a good source of drawings / plans or even a book that will show all the necessary details.

There are some original drawings / contemporary drawings existing - all in scale 1:48 - of her original configuration prior her "large repair"

Victory (1765)

Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the body plan with sternboard decoration, sheer lines with inboard detail, decoration and figurehead, and longitudinal half-breadth for Victory (1765), a 100-gun First Rate, three-decker. Even though the plan is dated 1830, the plan illustrates the vessel prior to her 1800-3 'Large Repair' at Chatham Dockyard.

The plan commemorates the death of Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson despite the plan representing the ship prior to when she was his flagship in 1803. There are also differences in gunport layouts when compared to the plan signed by Thomas Slade in 1759.

But much more indetail our member @dafi knows the Victory
- so I am pretty sure, that he knows alos where to find the best info about her original configuration

But be aware about the changes the shipyard made during the large repair - I think f.e. the mast location was also moved etc.

Uwe , our local hobby shop just got in the Ocrre HMS victory limited edition kit in for 1600 cnd dollars , in you opinion do you think this would be a good base for a 1765 conversion ? Their presentation looks good , just wondering about the quality and accuracy of the kit

I plan to convert my Occre HMS Victory to the 1765 version. It is the perfect kit to bash in my opinion.

I am really not a specialist for Victory kit models - the only things, which I know is what I like or do not like and how detailed are the different kits based on photos of the manufacturer

I think you should think about and define how finally will or shall be the presentation of your vessel

Me personally I am not a big fan of this framing of the Occre hull, which is in my personal taste not fish and no meat - it is somehow in between

I like personally more the Caldercraft version which is also more detailed, one reason might be the bigger scale

Reg I see you are Canadian as well what part of the country are you in?
I am in outskirts of Toronto

I am in the Eastern Townships of southern Quebec in a town called Sutton near the US border with Vermont.

:)

Certainly one of the most significant changes was going from an open stern galleries to closed. I do so much prefer the original.

After about a month of research I still have not found any books that show any kind of detail drawings of the open galleries and the decorations of the original victory

you can order a copy of the original drawings in scale 1:48 from the museum - here you have the detailed stern decoration shown
