I have the Occre kit Hms Beagle. My aim is to build the kit as authentically as possible within the constraints of the models scale. Can anybody help with this?
Areas of concern at present are:--
Correct deck planking pattern. Did Beagle have traditional nibbling strip.
Authentic colour scheme during Darwin voyages (in the longer term)
Any comments much appreciated

Hallo Pete alias @Pejoco
did you already went trhough our building log of the Beagle models?
Maybe there was already one discussion about these subjects you are interested

also interesting could be K.H.Marquardt publications.
Do you have the Anatomy book about the Beagle?
also he wrote several articles about this ship

Hi ya. Unfortunately kits are not always accurate or the books. National archives / photos / paintings and date. Then you have a good start. But the basic kit will give 100% satisfaction with some semi build extras … nothing easy but scratch building will take a lot of time, research and how you want the model to represent. Nowadays cost of living makes scratch build very hard. Do the best, enjoy and be patient.

Start :)
