3D Scanner and 3D Printer

I decided that I am going to try something different. Some of my kits contain many many Britania metal fittings and I find them too heavy. So, I am going to try to replace these parts with 3D printed parts.

Here is a picture of the scanner that I purchased. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to interface to WIndows. The only thing I am unsure of is how the resolution will be for small parts. Well I will find out.


Once I am happy, or not, with the scanned object using a software called Skanect, I plan to proceed with 3D printing it using Freecad. Anyways that is the plan.

I'm 84 and been using 3D printing for at least 5 years. It's great for ship modeling. only have a small 3D printer but still do a lot printing.

What kin of printer and scanner do most modelers use? I'm on the fence as to what to get and if it's feasible for ship modeling.
