What is the best way to begin the second planking. Some articals say at the bottom and some say above. Want to start planking the wilhelm zu pferde this weekend.

G'day Pat
Well that's a million dollar question. There are many different ways, some are better than others.
This is what I do...
I put the planks above the top wall first following it's line. Just keep these planks parallel to the walls up to the top rail.
Then I put 1 or 2 planks parallel and hard up to the keel.
The next step is very important. On my largest BH, which is in the midship, I decide that area up in 3 or 4 segments. i.e. if your plank width is 6mm and the space between the lower wall and the top plank from the keel is 72mm. It would be easier to divide 72 by 4 than by 3, so each division would be 18mm.so we will have 3 planks per section.
The next step would be to divide each BH into 12. (72÷6mm plank width)
Using this guide

Use only 12 plank width and using this section mark out the size for each BH.
This will tell you how wide to make the planks at each BH. Only cut the top side of the plank and put the plank under the bottom wall etc.
By dividing the total width of the length of BH into 4 the chance of error is less.
This might sound very difficult, but as you do the first section it will come to you easier.
Hope this will help you Pat. If you need any more information PM me please and I'll see what I can do.
