I must say a few months ago SOS was a sleepy little forum once in a while you get a post.

I can see an explosion in membership, everyday new members join. I believe it might be because of the talent being shown by members, the openness of the forum nothing is withheld from the public, a willingness for everyone to step up and offer advice, most of all everyone is welcome regardless of what you choose to build. and the group behind the forums MSB and SOS and the site Navy Board Models are doing a fantastic job bring you information.
I can see this group of sites becoming the number 1 international place for the hobby and art of model ship building.

visit the other sites and forums and facebook page there is a lot to see and learn

welcome one and all

Vielen Dank, Uwe~! I live in Middletown, CT, USA with one wife, one daughter and one cat. Building model ships has been and continues to be my biggest passion, along with general woodworking, toys for the grandkids, WW1 airplanes and steam engines. I accept model ship commissions, which are mostly repairs and restorations, although my largest commission was a scratch built French 74 of 1785 'Le Superbe', for a client in NYC. Completed in 2015, he reported to my agent that he intended to display her in his NYC apartment for a couple of years and then donate her to the Musee de la MSAM_2228 (1).JPGarine in Paris. (I will have to visit Paris...….)

I am currently serving as president of the Connecticut Marine Model Society, am active in the Nautical Research Guild, a member of the Mystic Seaport Museum. and a member of the Mystic Seaport Ship Modelers club. My shop includes all the usual hand tools, Dremels and benches, and also includes a medium milling machine, a 10" engine lathe, full size and miniature table saws, large and small drill presses, and home made sanders. I work in wood, metal, plastics and composites, and rigging sailing ships is totally fascinating to me.

One of the best model ship blogs that I know about is the Nautical Research Guild's Model Ship World. Your site may be just as good, maybe better. I have much to read herein. At least both sites would be complimentary.

The first image is my other daughter with my scratch build skip jack; the second image is my Soleil Royal, a Heller kit but with extensive modifications and corrections, especially to the rigging; the third is a dragon that is fully animated when pulled along the floor (2 grand kids each got one); the fourth if the bow of Le Superbe (I did not find the images of the completed commission-sorry).

Anyway, all the best and thanks again. Keep building and above all, have fun~! Duff

Hallo Duff,
many thanks for your introduction and the sharing of some models you made.....sounds very interesting so we are very happy, that you have found us.
We are looking forward to communicate and hope to hear and see from your workshop in next time.....Good to have you on board

Hi Uwek, Thanks for the welcome. I'm getting used to the site, (ruined my dinner looking around). New to the hobby although I did build a few model planes (plastic and wood) many years ago. Just purchased Bluenose II by A.L. Seems a nice kit apart from the fact that the instructions seem to be translated into English by a Martian!! Still I'll muddle through with a lot of help from this site and youtube.

Hallo Victor,
many thanks for your introduction. We can see, that you are located in Malta, one of a famous naval base and harbour in history......so ships are already in your gens and blood......We are looking forward to see your work with your Bluenose II kit, maybe the best to start a building log, in this way we are up-to-date with your build and can help and assist when ever necessary and requested by yourself. Here are a lot of very friendly and helpful modelers, so give it a try.....Once more welcome on board of SOS.....
