I see that the Box art (box) has the ratlines the same color thread and the shrouds. But, my parts only contain a blonde color line. I wonder what is the deal. This means that my Ratlines will be different color than shrouds.

I think you should use more than 1 color . It is more interesting and gives the model more character :text-woo:
You need to research the internet for more photo's . :greetings-waveyellow:

Well, it is too late. I have already ordered some .15 dark brown from Frontline hobbies in Australia - only ones that carry OcCres lines.

A lot of kits only send one color of rigging line. Standing rigging is always tarred and thus dark. What I do is use a black shoe polish. It also has the advantage of waxing the line so it does not fray.
However, the ratlines were not tarred and were made of hemp and 1 1/2" in circumference. To calculate the size of rigging line for your particular ship, use the following formula:
1.5 inches times 25.4 divided by 3.1415926 divided by the scale of your ship.
The Soleil Rayoal is 1/77 so the calculation is 1.5 x 25.4 / 3.1415926 / 77 giving mine size as 0.1575 mm.
If the size of rope is given as a diameter, you do not divide by pi.

That is a good point Gary. I wonder what would happen if I used some of the Admirals black hair color !!!

:laughing-rofl: :laughing-rofl:

Ratlines were 1 1/2" in circumference and were made of hemp and not tarred as standing rigging was. This is 38.1 millimeters which when coverted to dimeter and divide by 1/90 as the scale you are woking on, it becomes .135 for the scale rope size. Thus, do not use the black line you ordered for the ratlines. See how to calculate rope sizes from my comment above. Frank Mastini's Ship Modeling Simplified page 83 says ratlines are not tarred and 16 inches apart. Wolfram Zu Mondfeld's Historic Ship Models page 288 says 15 or 16 inches apart with 1 1/2 inches in circumference rope and stop at the futtock staff. None were on the royal shrouds and rarely on the topgallant shrouds.

Wow That is a huge help .Great Details . I will use that size when I build my Corel Victory Also Scale 1:90 . How do we find actual rope sizes for other scale ship sizes Like 1:60 on my Real De France or is it 1:48 Corel has listed both on thier box depending which box you get ?And Hair Color would give you a lot of new tones like Blonde or Brunnette but which one is the question ? Maybe both . I have never seen new ideas like this site but hair color takes this site to a new level of New Ideas :text-lol:
