So what is the trick to threading blocks? Needle won't fit. Thread bunche up. I have a lot of them to do. Working on the cannon placement and not having a lot of success.

Hello Patrick, first clean the hole or make it bigger with a micro drill and put some Ca glue on the end of the thread to make it hard and stiff, this is the way I have done, hopefully this helps.

I will give it a go now. The blocks are so small (box says 1:41) and I don't have extra blocks or pulleys I was afraid of breakage trying to drill them out.

Drill them very slowly and with just a tiny bit larger drill bit than the whole,do not force it.

About paint and varnish..... I assume you paint and or varnish as you go. I was just adding pulleys and blocks to my cannon and happened to think... how will I finish this with all the rope (string) in the way. I am this far on the hull (see pic) so I am thinking I should stop and varnish it before going any farther right? Instructions from AL doesn't say.

Yes, I suggest you finish the hull. Don't use varnish as it takes ages to dry, rather use a clear enamel or acrylic.

Use sanding sealer to seal the wood. Then use what ever you want, wipe on poly, varnish etc. The acrylic base will dry quick, the oil based will take longer. The main thing to consider of if anything need gluing later - cleats, shroud rigs, decking furnature, leave th area natural otherwise the glue may not adhere properly, This can bea problem with bits & taught rigging.

I tend to leave it all to the last just before rigging the whole ship. It can get tricky with rigged guns etc. but a small childs painting brush gets in most areas.

I use real beeswax and run the line through it several times. Makes the line stand out straight and with no fuzzies.
