Here is my version of the Sovereign of the Seas.
I am at the beginning so just glued the frame together and the first 2 decks and also the first planks are on the ship.

The next step will be to add some LEDs.

I will post a picture when I have finished all the smoldering work.

So here is a first picture of the ship.
I installed all LEDs, also for the lanterns, which will be installed later.
This is my first time to use LEDs in a boat and I went for flickering (is it called that way?) LEDs for simulating natural fire.

My next step is to finish the first planking of the underwater hull.
An update will follow when this step is finished.

A good start you are showing here...... I will follow your building log with big interest.

Finally finished the first planking of the underwater hull. I already applied some filler and the next step is sanding the hull.
By the way: in the back of the picture is the semi finished Golden Hind (Occre kit). What I really like is the size comparison.IMG_5855.jpg

Your hull is realy looking good, looks like a very smooth first planking, so you needed only small quantity of filler.....very good progress.....but now the work starts with the second planking.....looking forward.
Impressive realy the difference of the sizes of the ships, when there 100 or 200 years in between......the kits have only a small difference in scale, so realy comparable...

G'day Njord
Just found your log, I'll be taking an interest in this build, as it was one of the model on my short list. I still might build or i.e. day if I still able.
You are doing great gus

Not much happened since the last update. Just sanded the underwater hull and installed 2 decks.
I also added the holders for the dummy cannons. I also painted them just in case you can glimpse.
And as you can see I also put a bottle of rum into the picture. It is from the same company which delivered the rum for the Austrian Navy end of the 19th beginning of the 20th century.

Hi NjOrdr
Nice start on the SOS.
Make sure your connon ports line up with the blocks, I put extra ones in just to make sure.

Denis.

Hi Denis,

thank you for the hint. Did the original blocks lined up in the end or have you installed the cannons and the additional blocks?

I just updated my web site for this ship and made the pictures better and the reading parts easier to read. Hopefully this will help you in your build and allow you to avoid some of the mistakes that the kit has designed incorrectly. Even though they make great looking models, there is so many errors in the kit and the r3evised version added even more.

Hi
I think the ones at the bow and stern just missed the cannons, just keep your eyes on them.
I see you have the blocks under the bow deck for the front cannons as the blocks was not in my kit.

Denis.

Hi,
thanks again for the hint. I will dry fit the outer parts befor the first planking of the upper hull to see where I have to add additional blocks for the cannons.
The blocks for the bow cannons also have not been included in my kit. I checked the instruction a couple of times how to fit the bow cannons and I was not able to find anything. so I decided to use some left over wood from a previous project.

Hi Again
I know I am going ahead of you but better tell you well before hand.
You have a lantern to fit at the back of the ship before you do that you have a block of wood to fit under it before you put the lantern on, this is easily missed, hope this helps you.
If I think of something else I will let you know.

I don't know what colour you are going to paint it but black is the correct colour.

Denis.

Hello,
thanks for the hint. Regarding the lanterns I have something in my mind and I have to see how I can make it work.
The plan is to fit a LED in the big lantern and also into the 4 on the sides.
Regarding colour: I plan to make it very similar to Gary's model.
