Scratchbuild Creole Queen Sternwheeler 1/82

Hello Wim,

Just finished reading through your log, you're doing an excellent job on your Creole Queen Sternwheeler, she's coming along very nicely Sir, looking forward to more updates :)

Great work, some scratchbuilding job. Love the Proxxon drill press, I've wanted one of those for a long time now.

@Aldo
Thanks for the nice words. I have a small update now.

@Tony
Also thanks for the nice words. The drill press is really working fine :D .

And here a small update to show you I continued the build.

Some curtains are placed.

Next step was to construct the 'drives' for the paddlewheel.
See green arrow.

Found some wood in my sparebox, glued them together and some sanding.

Nice start on this paddlewheeler. I also looked at the link for the Turtle. It looks like an interesting one and by the pictures, it should make an interesting model. The English translation seem to be decent.

I really have to applaud those that can do a scratch build. Lookin' good Wim !!

Donnie

Thanks guys for the comments. I know, you have to be patient with me, but a next update is coming soon  .

Gary, the Turtle is indeed a very interesting build. I will start a buildlog after I finished this paddleboat.

Thanks Aldo,

The wood I am using is plywood, linden and spruce.
Linden is a bit soft, nice for bending and sanding.
I used the spruce for the 'drives'.

A small update.

After gentle sanding the hull I painted her black again.
The I put her name at the front of the ship, a difficult part.
Afterward I varnished the complete hull.

In the meanwhile I finished the rudders.

An experiment for the fire extinguisher (I need 6 of them).
A piece of wood, a small piece of brass and copper wire.
Measures are: 10 mm x 3 mm.

Thanks for the nice comments :D .

Indeed 3 rudders, I hope that's right, because the only reference showed me the rudders were the drawings of Dumas.
No fire please, but regulations you know, so if I like it or not I have to install some fire extinguishers ;-) .

For the name of the ship I used dry transfer decals, they are very thin.

Thanks for the info Wim, I'll check with my supplier about these woods. That extinguisher looks really neat, excellent work

Sjors,
On my first riverboat were only two rudders too, so all is possible I think :D .

Aldo,
The best to work with are plywood and linden, those are really made for ship modellers.

While building I discovered the boilerroom was too small, about 10 mm.
So here are the first 'repairs'.

Removed the grill and sanding the paint until I saw the plywood again.

A new piece of plywood of 4 mm thick:

Sanding and a first layer of paint:

Now the railings and the upperdeck will fit better.

Thanks for looking in guys :D .
It's only 10 mm, but everything will fit better now.

With scratching it is all in the game  .

Next step was to build the second deck.
It is still rough now, more support is needed for the next deck, it shoould be leveled and sanded, etc.
Also made a start with the stairs at the frontside made from plastic card.
