Union liner Saxon in Union-Castle colours. This type of model is very unpopular amongst model shipbuilders. Probably because of the complexity. Far more difficult to build than sailing ships because of all the portholes, lifeboats, rails, stanchions, ladders, doors, windows etc.

It is 18 inches long, and took 78 hours to build, (timed on a stopwatch), spread over a few weeks. Completely hand built, and far more complicated than sailing ships - Bob

definitely looks complex and that's right up my alley. I cant explain why, but for some reason the harder it is to do things the more I like doing them.

Here is another of a similar type, but built 30 years later (the ship, that is, not the model) - Bob

The Saxon belonged to my old company, the Union-Castle Mail Steamship Co. She was origianlly owned by the Union Line, but they merged with the Castle Ine in 1900 to form Union-Castle, that ran a fleet of passenger ships from Southampton to South Africa until 1978 when the sold them all! They were lavender grey in colour, and very smart. This is one of the older ones I sailed in, Edinburgh Castle of 1948. Have you built any ship models before? Or do you just build aircraft? - Bob Edinburgh Castle 1.jpgEdinburgh Castle Tray 2.JPG

you do some amazing work my friend. I just ordered a bunch of Basswood so I can get started Building these little marvels. I do a lot of wood carving whittling actually. Its a hobby I picked up years ago while sitting in the woods waiting on Deer to come past my Hunting Blind and tree stand. I would usually grab a stick or small branch on the way in and whittle something while I waited. I have a lot of large Basswood blocks, but I wanted sheets for this so I got some ordered today. I like how you got the sheer for the deck in your ebook when I make ships for bottles I carve that in, your method is much easier so I'll be using that from now on. I have in the past carved the ship out and instead of making the bulwarks separately I just carved down into the ships body to create it. I also normally use card stock to make the bulwarks on ships when I don't carve them in.
