Hi Jim
The caulking was done with an archival felt pen.
I used satin varnish, I think it looks glossy because of the flash on the camera + the light I had shining on it.

Man - that is a huge ship. Very nice details. Easy to follow. I like the graphics. Love the build log. Denis, I have never had too much success using flash. Usually cameras (if this is a point and shoot) have really come a long ways in AUTO mode. I can't remember the last time I ever used flash. Perhaps you can take some test shots with the flash turned off. Do you have any natural light in the room ? Usually P&S cameras will take care of that too. But, you might be using a cell phone. I am not sure. Even those cell phone cameras now rival the medium priced cameras.

About the gun barrels: after blackening comes a coat of flat black acrylic paint and then I give them a graphite 'bath' that is graphite powder between my fingers (good fun to clean the fingers afterwards). This gives the barrels a satin-like grayish colour which is very close to the cast iron appearance.

The camera is a very old Olympus one but I have a Canon 7D mark 11 or (2) that I must start using.
