I am trying to figure out if the Pinta, or a caravela of that time period, had raised waterways on the main deck. The info I have been able to gather shows the margin planking, but I can't see any waterways. The quarter deck does have a raised "waterways" where the stanchions for the railings are. Interestingly, I can't seem to find margin planking in this area. Any ideas out there?

There are a few reproductions of the Nina running around- you could check them. I'll check the Anatomy of a ship- the ships of Christopher report back. If you are interested in the various interpretations of Columbus' ships and others of that period it's a great book, even including a lot of information on the Coca de Mataro ship model.

Thanks Pebble Worm. I do have Pastor's book and have looked at various deck photos of replicas, but unfortunately it is not clear enough to show waterways. On the deck arrangement, in Pastor's book, I am figuring it shows margin planks due to the width. If you could take a look at the book and let me know what your thoughts are I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ron W.

I'm far from an expert, but I agree that the Pastor drawings look more like margin planks than waterways. The reproduction ships do not have waterways, just a continuous gap or scupper above the deck. Whoever designed the replicas probably spent a lot more time researching these ships than we ever will...

Sorry about the late response (work schedule). Thanks for your input on this. I am going with the margin plank idea.
