Pinta 1492 by Mike 41 – 1:32 scale Caravel

It is hard to find good Minions in Kansas the best ones are found along the coast.

Poop Deck Framing:
This is a few photos showing the poop framing.

Hull Planking:
The planking is basswood. These pictures show the advantage of using a swivel vice during the application of the planks by always working on a flat surface.

Forecastle Framing and Planking:
This set of photos shows some good details on how the foremast and bowsprit penetrate the deck planking. The model is back in the jig for this process.

Good Morning Geoff,
One more set of photos and I am done for the day.

Gunwales:
The gunwales are made from walnut and installed with rubber bands and clamps in the jig. This set of photos shows the installation and finished gunwales.

Mike

Excellent work.

Educational to any model ship builder.

Thank you

Cheers
Geoff

Gunwales (Note):
I used my trusty tea kettle to make the bends in the walnut gunwales. The old methods still work well and are enjoyable to use.

Thanks Geoff,
I see you have a couple of sections listed in your future builds. I could post a cross section I did a few years back if you are interested after the Pinta is finished.
Mike

Thanks Zoltan,
The Pinta is an unassuming small ship and would make a good ‘first build’ for any kit builder desiring to venture into the Dark Side.

Hi Mike,
I don't have enough words to express my admiration for your skill. I only hope I reach your level some day. Truly amazing build thank you for sharing.

Hi Joe,

The adjustable bars are shop made, they consist of two L shaped support legs with slots for attachment to the T-Track and adjustable horizontal bar. A horizontal beam is attached between the vertical support legs for stability and a thin moveable bar for vertical measurements. The measurements are based on the size of the board and model.

This is a photo of the plastic knobs I use in the track.

The link Zoltan posted will get you to the scales I just glue them to the vertical posts.

Mike
