Pinta 1492 by Mike 41 – 1:32 scale Caravel

Windlass:
The windlass is a nice mini project for the lathe. It is made from mahogany and the following photos show the building process.

Thanks Brian,
This is a nice site with a lot of skilled craftsmen such as yourself. I tend to take a lot of pictures of my work and don't describe the details the way I should. A photo saves a lot of typing.

Hi Joe,
I can put together a build log a lot faster than a model. The Pinta took six months to build and for me that was fast.
Mike

Thanks Mike, I am glad you like the windlass.

Binnacle:
The base and drawer of the binnacle are walnut and the top is mahogany with rosewood trim. It was made from scraps laying on the work bench. This a couple of photos of the little jewel.

I really like you excellent build

I also like your approach in teaching the new comer to model ship building on techniques.

It is much appreciated

Thankyou

Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
Thank you for your kind words. I believe these forums should be used to share information about different building methods, procedures and materials. There is always more than one way to build a boat.
Mike

G'day Mike, I second what every one has said, fantastic workmanship, later on tonight I'm going go back and read through from the beginning of your build,

best regards John.

Hi John,
Thanks for your comments. I hope you find the Pinta log interesting. Your model of the Prince is museum quality, it’s a privilege to work with the first-rate builders on this site.
Mike

Fire Box (ships stove):
The following photos show the assembly of the ships stove and some buckets in a stowage rack. It doesn’t look like they baked much bread on board this vessel.

This is a few photos showing the framing of the forecastle, note the bow sprit is offset to the starboard side of the ship.

Hi Mike,
It's always a pleasure to look at your work. I learn something new each time I look at your build log.
I'm glad you came to this forum.

Mike

I very much look forward to seeing your updates. The thing I very much like is you share the building experience with people taking up the hobby.

That is very important to the hobby.

It is great to see just a great build

Cheers
Geoff

Hi Mike,
This is an interesting site and I am pleased to be here.

Hi Geoff,
Every model I build is a learning experience for me, there is always unfamiliar problems to solve as you try to make the current build better than the last one. I feel like some of the modeling I do should be useful to other builders.
Cheers,
Mike

it is coming along very nicely good job but you need more minions to work on it the ones you have are taking too many breaks
