I am quite new to ship modeling - have only completed a Swampscott Dory by Blue Jackets.

I am now working on the Bluenose. Is there a secret to brush painting the hull so as to not let the brush strokes show?
I am using the acrylic paint that is provided with the Model Expo model kit. I am not familiar with spray painting and
don't really want to invest in the equipment that would be needed.

Would appreciate any tips. Thank you.

Hi Jim,

Welcome and good luck with the Blue Nose.

For the painting; I'd say if the brush strokes turns tiny let them show, that would be very scale like I think. If you don't want them to show; dilute the paint and apply many coats, let each coat dry completely and sand each of them. Time consuming but will get what you want. You may consider using oil colors for much better results.

Paint work requires a very good base to start with. So, preparation is the key. Use wood filler to achieve a flawless base, and I would use a spray base coat (I'd use gray) to make life much easier.

Take your time, let the paint completely dry, and don't forget sanding between layers.

Hope this helps.

I have brush painted many models and can only echo the good advice above. Regards.

Thank you very much for the advice. I am going to do a number of sample pieces first to see the results of different techniques.
Again, I really appreciate your responses.
