Hi All,
What is the best paint to use on my wooden models?. I use Humbrol enamel and revel acrylic on my plastic models. I use an airbrush. I know that every ones has there own preferences but a general view point would be appreciated. :text-thankyouyellow:

Roger.

Hi Roger. I moved from plastic to wood and you will be OK with what you are using. However, you might want to seal the wood first and give it a light rub down before you paint - going straight on with paint will raise the grain, sometimes quite a lot depending on the type of wood. I just use the cheapest acrylic lacquer there is for that purpose.

Hi Graham,
Thanks for the info. Just to confirm once it has been smoothed the acrylic lacquer is applied to the wood then primer can go on top before the paint. Will it be okay to use enamel paint on top or would I have to use acrylic paint.
Cheers,
Roger. :D

Hi Roger. Sand the wood smooth, lacquer it (matt, satin, whatever you have), let it dry and then rub it down ready to paint. I go straight on with the paint (either type is OK, it does not matter) and do not use a primer; rub down between coats - I get the best results using fine wire wool as it does not knock the edges off so much as paper. If you are using CA glue (super glue) then enamel will coat better over those small areas where the glue has leeched into the wood if you are not able to fully sand it back; if that area is to be clear coated (i.e. lacquered) as the final finish then sanding back the CA does not matter too much. Hope that helps. Regards.
