I was initially interested in the OcCre Endeavor, but after looking at the Montanes, it also has my interest. Has anyone had any experience with the OcCre Montanes build ?
Thanks
Donnie
Hi
I have built the OcCre NS Mercedes. Looking at images of the Montanes it looks very similar as far as the upper deck, masts and rigging goes.
It seems there is quite a premium to pay for an extra row of guns!
OcCre models seem to be relatively cheap but fit for purpose.
The quantities of materials and fittings were generous: I had plenty left over - even a spare gun port frame, lid and cannon.
The planking on the Mercedes was mahogany over Ramin. Ramin is less user friendly than Lime.
Mahogany is not a very appropriate colour but I suppose it could be stained.
The masts and spars were ramin: same comment.
Just noticed: the spec for the Montanes is walnut over lime. Explains some of the higher cost. Worth it.
The etched brass stern decoration on the Mercedes was a bit basic but OK from a distance.
The rigging thread was uncoated and therefore cooperative. The standing rigging is dark brown rather then black. (????)
I didn't bother with the supplied sails.
I also built the OcCre Golden Hind. I encounterd no problems with either model
Hope this helps.
