Hi new here,I live in Edinburgh.Old enough to know better but I have embarked on an attempt to build Constructor HMS Bounty 1:110.This is a new experience for me having progressed from plastic kits to balsa wood aeroplanes. To be honest I feel little confused with what was supposed to be a easy model.I would appreciate any help to get started.By the way I am well into my 70s.

Welcome here, this is a good recourse site with friendly people.
Gr. Jos.

btw. i think in scale 1:110 nothing will be easy. ;)

A warm welcome also from my side. Everybody here is friendly a will help if necessary anr requested.
It is never too late to start with new challenges.
You could start a building log and a lot of friends will assist you.......welcome on board

I will bear that in mind.Keeping a log seems a good idea.I took a look at the rigging and though it is a long way ahead it kind of threw me.I may bend your ear from time to time.

Yes i would like to see the Bounty grow, a very nice ship.

Hi Jos ,just started and having problems with the bends,in these small pieces of wood.Do you need to soak the wood or just dampen.Got them on and drying.

You can soak the wood to get it to bend, but be careful: you could dissolve the glue on those plywood bulwarks and delaminate the parts. Not good! . I use a clothes iron on steam setting to bend a lot of stock. Practice on some scrap.

Thanks Doc.I have done okay up to now, more by luck than judgement. Its not perfect but I guess it is a fairly steep learning curve.I was looking on line at a plank bending tool,no need to soak the wood apparently.

Hi Jos progressing very slowly with the Bounty.A very steep learning curve.Terrible time trying to bend 1.5 x1.5 cm rails.Persevered and am getting there. This model has “easy” on the box lid?

G'day Daper
Welcome to SOS. It's never too old to join the great hobby of wooden ship building. You'll be a model shipwrite in no time.
MAY I suggest that you start your own build log and there will a lot if members who would be pleased to help you.
We all felt like we care walking blindfolded when we first started. Don't worry about asking questions, that is how you can learn.
Also if you read other build logs, we all give you ideas etc to make it easier.
So give you build log a go! You will be amazed at the help and encouragements that you will get.
Havagooday mate
