I have the Tamiya 1/350 scale model of the early Fletcher class destroyer. It has sat on a shelf about half finished for many years. When I bought it I also bought the Gold Medal Models PE brass set as the model comes without any railings. I wasn't all that interested in using most of the rest of the etched pieces. Back then I had just started using CA cement and not being experienced with it I was unable to successfully attach the metal railings. So I put the model aside. Recently I found the kit box with all the unassembled parts so I decided to order another set of etched railings. I spent almost a week cleaning up the model and removing plastic parts that would interfere with attaching the etched parts. I also decided to include many more etched parts to enhance the looks of the model. So, earlier today I was bending the brass railing that goes on top of the bridge. The early Fletchers had a rounded front to the bridge which meant that the railing had to be bent to match the curve. I just about had everything bent to the right shape and was in the process of test fitting the part when the grip of the tweezers I was using slipped and the part dropped to the floor. I had just rearranged my modelling room so the floor is very clean compared to how it looked a week ago. So I thought that finding the part would be very easy, but boy was I wrong. I have just spent over an hour scouring the floor searching for the missing railing without any success. This particular railing is unique to the top of the bridge and trying to use some of the generic railing will be very difficult. So, I am afraid the model may end up sitting incomplete for another ten years. Very frustrating!
