I am reposting this build log , she is the South Australian Fishing Cutter, The Minnie Sims, 1/48 scale

Year or period represented: 1898-1932

History: Built as a local fishing boat in 1898 and wrecked on Kangaroo Island South Australia, while riding out a storm, the winds changed and drove her ashore after the Anchor gave way.

Scale 1/48, hull length 13 inches

Construction method / materials used: Jelutong was used for carving the hull, with Huon pine for stem, keel, stern post and deck planking, brass was used for the various mast and rigging fittings also the deck winch.

Research: The model was built for the grandson of the boats original owner, who supplied the plans and photo's of the boat.

This model was carved from two pieces of Jelutong as I do with most of my small models.

The hull was carved from two pieces of Jellutong, and glued together with a spacer the thickness of the keel in between, and dowells for fixing.

It was then carved and sanded with the help of cardboard templates.

I cut the winch body out of some scrap brass, and used some rod and couple of gear wheels
from my scrap box.

Ahoy Mate,
Nice looking ship. I have never built a solid hull ship and I wanted to know did you use chisels to shape the hull?
:music-rockout: :handgestures-salute:

G'day Mike, and welcome I only used a craft knife and sandpaper as in the first pics, the wood is Jelutong and it carves very nicely,

best regards John.

Hi John, Think I missed this one on your incredible building program.
A lovely smal and detailed project.
Thank you Maarten, Iv'e got a few build logs to visit myself and catch up on, hopefully during this next week, I havnt been too good, I had to have a double cortizone injection in my left shoulder but it seems to be coming good now,
