I don't think this kit a good one,too cheap, but lets wait what others say.

I'm half tempted to just grab one and see. If the kit is junk I can always use the cannons and wood for other Projects like scratch builds and ships in bottles. Hopefully someone can tell me if its any good or not before I purchase it as Id prefer to use the money for a better Black pearl kit. I really want to build this ship for my Grandson though he's a big fan of the movie. I have a ton of kits waiting to be built that are solid Hull Scientific Brand kits. I am holding those for my Grandson as first Model builds for him. All my ships in bottles have been scratch builds so having the extra wood is fine by me lol

You have the option to buy the Hachette Black Pearl or the Zhl Black Pearl.

I took a look and I think the bottom line here is you get what you pay for. any decent kits will start around $300.00 and up. the price tells me it is at the low end of quality. However it is not a piece of fine art or a museum piece it is just a display model and for that purpose it might work just fine.
you can always use build logs found here and kit bash it into something good.

absolutely this will just be a build for the Grandson because he loves the movie. I have found that even lesser price kits can be built very nice if one is up to the task of doing good work and adding those extra touches to build a clean model, that's always my goal no matter what I build.
Thanx Brother ill go check them out

I did buy the ZHL kit today also, that ship will be mine to keep unless the cheaper one is trash then the ZHL will go to my Grandson after we build it. I will send the other back if its to bad if not Ill keep it and give that one to the Grandson. I'm not sure how well he will take care of it through the years so I don't want to give him a High end ship just yet.

OK I got the Ebay Black pearl kit today. That was super fast shipping from HONG KONG. I will say DO NOT BUY!!!
First the package came crushed because there was nothing on it saying Fragile or don't stack. The box is a plain brown box, you wouldn't have any clue a ship kit was enclosed. I opened the box to mayhem, everything scattered wildly with a piece of bubble wrap mixed in. I sorted through the kit to make sure it was actually a ship kit because it looked like someone just tossed junk wood in a box and shipped it out. There were No instructions on plans but a CD was included that was scratched up do to being wildly tossed amongst the contents I popped the CD in my computer and it wont open because of an unknown file and file ext. a web search turned up nothing to open it with.

So going off my exp. with ships, I went through the contents to find many pieces missing from the laser cut sheets. Only one bundle of very thin rigging line and surely not enough for making ropes and other rigging this ship would require. The sail Material is thick polyester type and stiff. there were no rigging parts no dead eyes or chain plates nothing. basically no rigging other then thin black polyester string. there isn't enough wood to plank the hull of the ship let alone make any rails hatch openings or any other deck furniture. and the wood is Brittle and a multitude of cracks and busted ends. There are no belay pins, Nails, eye pins. No rear lamps or figurine. front figurine is a thin slice of wood about 1/8 thick ply. The Mast dowels aren't enough for this ship only 4 pieces to do three full masts. No Deck planking of any kind. I'm sure I'm forgetting something it was so bad I couldn't wrap my head around what someone's thought was that there is a ship in all this mess. Here are pics of what I got and yes its going back for sure. The second pic is what I opened the box up to see I didn't touch a thing

This is what I was expecting for that price,no suprise here for me.
yeah I was hoping for at least a complete kit I could work with, but this is absolutely junk. I could just use it and buy what I need. I quite possibly even have enough from other kits and spare parts to get it built, but without instructions it would take quite awhile to figure out what went where and when. just not worth the aggravation even though I do love a good challenge, call it the Marine in me. Just not worth the time. The ZHL kit is OTW so no worries that one looks very nice and it shows the parts you get in the Ad so it looks complete. ZHL seems to be a decent company as far as I've read.

Received my ZHL Black Pearl Golden kit today and WOW what a difference. got an actual Box with what the ship looks like on it. Inside everything neatly packed into 2 separate boxes. Parts looks really good even gave me some Tiny LED's. Instructions look ok and I should have no problem building this ship from them. This is gonna be fun. Have to finish the Santa Maria before I start this kit. I'll definitely start a build log for it as I have heard some folks have had a hard time figuring this ship out.

Good to see, that there are so big differences in quality of the different kits and / or suppliers. - very interesting to see the difference between the two kits.
Once more we can see, that quality costs some money ..... many thanks for showing and sharing with us this experience

yes sir, I'm happy that I at least got a kit that can be built to completion, the first one couldn't without the purchase of many parts. I know better then to buy cheap, but I thought that I'd at least get a complete kit even if it was a turd I could have at least made it look decent. I'm not a huge fan of Laser cut parts, I'd prefer just getting the raw wood and shaping it to what I need.
