Le Mirage Corel Scale 1:75

Well my order from Age of Sail came in, but they had to back order the post for my railings so I had to hold off on the rear balcony, however I did get the smaller blocks for the canon rigging. It's taking me about 3 hours a canon so far but I think they are looking much better then the orignal one.

I pre-rigged them on the workbench, then installed them.

The new ones are on the left and the orignal is on the right. I now have to take it's rigging off and redo it.
Well I only have 9 to go.

Cannons look great. A buddy of mine that is also building the Sovereign along with me, he rigs his cannons on the bench also. I just can't get that right. I do most everything in place. I have been lax on posting pics of my build but will try tomorrow. Keep up the great work she is definitely a build to be proud of.

Very nice work on the Canons. All seems to be coming together nicely.

Hi Kent,

Nicely done on the cannon.

I just joined SOS and notice that your right in my backyard... or I'm in your backyard... over in Pleasant Hill, anyway. I know several ship modelers in the area. Would love to get together sometime to talk shop.

Hey guys, I'm still here. I've done some work on Le Mirage

I'm still waiting for my railing parts, so I'm still holding off on the rear portion of the ship.

However I have started the rigging on my plastic model of the USS Constitution. I have been working on this model for just over 40 years. This is my fourth attempt and I would love to get it finished. So I have been spending some time on it, even thou I would like to be working on the wooden one.

I'll be gone next month, so don't expect to many updates from me.

Love that ship. I volunteered for duty aboard her but was deployed before request could be processed. She did a 21 gun salute to honor our fallen heros who gave it all in the past years. She is the oldest commissioned ship in the U S Navy

Hi ya Guys, well the summer is long gone and We've moved into fall. For Me this is the beginning of Ship Building season again. So I went out to my shipyard and started up work again. I've completed all the Standing Rigging on the Constitution and I've finished up the rear area of the Le Mirage.

I had to wait several months to get in the brass stanchions for the second balcony.

My next step will be working on the Foredeck and Rudder. I talked to Gary last week and he told me how to do the Gun Port Doors so I'm waiting for parts to come in that were not included with the kit.

It's great to be back and expect to see more posts from me.

Kent,
that is absolutely beautiful work on the stern decorations. Really looks lifelike. I had to really struggle to get the Stern on the Trinidad to even come close to looking fair.

Nice job - can't wait to see more. Glad you are back at it again.

Donnie

ps - Oh your Constitution is getting some attention too. Good. I have to admire folks that can do two or more at the same time.

Hey there everyone, yes I'm still around. Sorry about letting the football season get in the way of some ship building time, but Stanford did make it to the Rose Bowl again and we did do a lot of tailgating. Well back to the subject at hand. A few months ago a few of us from the forum that live in Northern California got together for a meet and greet. During this gathering I brought up the problem I was having with how to mount my gun port doors.

I had made all my gun port doors

But wasn't sure how to mount them, this was My idea

After talking to a few of the guys (GaryM in particular), they told me about pins and hinges I could use to mount them. I went online and found what I needed to do the job
10.25.13 05 (Post).JPG

And with these simple steps, I was able to attach them

And a couple of weeks later I finished them

If it wasn't for this forum and the guys I met, I don't know if I would have gotten this far. Well we're meeting up again this saturday and you can be sure that I'll have several more questions for them.

Well done on the hinges Kent!!
That looks like a more realistic result all round, of course there is a lot more work involved but to my mind the end result is worth it. Like your earlier example with the cut off pins inserted into the lid and then pressed tight against the hull is how I did the lids for my last build, since then I have learned a lot more and will do something different with my current build!!
That's the beauty of visiting these forums! picking up tips and tricks.
Cheers, All the best, Steve.. :text-thankyouyellow:

Very nice Kent , I really like those gun door hinges. I may try to scratch something similar together. One of the things I enjoy about this site is all the ideas that are shared.

Hey Kent,
She is really looking good, judging from her size you've a lot of rigging fun ahead, what you completed looks good.
