Today I want to show you one of my favourite kits I have stored, hope to build it once.

It is the scale 1:64 kit of

HMS Agamemnon 1781, a 64 gun ship of the line of the Ardent-class, which is produced by JOTIKA Ltd. from UK
In Germany and some other countries it is sold via Krick under their name, but is the Jotika kit.

History of HMS Agamemnon

H.M.S. Agamemnon, a 64 gun ship of the line, was designed by the famous Naval Architect Sir Thomas Slade. Sir Thomas also drafted the plans for H.M.S. Victory. Built by Henry Adams at Bucklers Hard she was launched in 1781 after four years of building. Agamemnon became one of the most famous vessels of the Royal Navy. Nelson, who referred to her as his favourite ship, commanded her between 1793 and 1796. It was in Agamemnon that Nelson lost the sight of his right eye during the siege of Calvi in 1794. He also met Lady Hamilton while on a diplomatic visit to Naples in 1793. Agamemnon was at the centre of events through three of the most turbulent decades of British Naval history. Fighting battles at Saints, Copenhagen and Trafalgar. She later served in the West Indies participating in the battle of Santo Domingo, and then in South American waters, until she was wrecked in Maldonado Bay off the coast of Uruguay in 1809. Divers are now excavating the wreck after her recent discovery.

Technical Data of finished model:
Scale 1:64
Length: 1.300 mm
Beam: 490 mm
Height: 945 mm
No of Parts: 9.003
Weight of the kit is appr. 12 kg, so a real heavy box

Keith Julier is showing the construction of this model in his book "The New PERIOD SHIP HANDBOOK" over 37 pages and is writing (in the year 2004) in his final conclusion:

"Without any doupt, this was one of the best kits I have had pleasure of building.......High quality materials and drawings were supported by a superb standard of pre-cutting.......As a kit for the more experienced model maker........serious consideration must be given to the problems of working space and manoeuvrability. (Comment: He refers to the length of 1,3 meter and width 0f appr. 0,5 meter)........My own opinion is that this kit sets a new benchmark in the market place and is one that really does have the potential for a "museum" quality result."

Please keep in mind, that he wrote this 2004, so in the meantime there are new benchmarks given, but still a big and high quality kit!

Dear friends,
what I forgot to mention in the review is the information that the company Jotika
is often also known under the brands name CALDERCRAFT

This is what they say on their web-page: http://www.jotika-ltd.com/

Profile

We are often asked ‘Are you JoTiKa or Caldercraft?’, the simple answer is both. Caldercraft is the company name under which we manufacture our own products while JoTiKa is the parent distribution company through which Caldercraft and many other manufacturers’ products are distributed.

Formed in 1988, JoTiKa is a small family owned and operated business based in Hadzor, Droitwich, UK and was originally set up in order to manufacture, under licence, and distribute products throughout Europe from Aeromarine Laminates Inc.
Manufacturing and distribution rights for Caldercraft were added in 1992 with one simple company goal: not just to produce model ship kits but to produce actual scale replica ship kits, paying attention to quality, fine detailing and overall authenticity to the chosen subject. It is this underlying principle that catapulted Caldercraft to market leader status and, thanks to continual development and investment, remains the benchmark for the competition. Development and manufacturing using the latest CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping technologies ensures accuracy of all of the kit contents from metal castings to CNC routed and profiled wooden components, from metal extrusions to brass etched fittings.
Manufacturing and distributing a range of over 100 model ship subjects ranging from the static Men of War to steam yachts and from World War II submarines to 80mph power boats, coupled with literally thousands of fittings and accessories allows JoTiKa to cater for the many and varied tastes of marine modelling enthusiasts around the globe.

Nelsons Navy, a new kit range by Caldercraft portraying ships from Nelsons period, was released in late 1999 with great success. Along side this a Heritage Series range has been introduced, the first release being 'Mary Rose'. All Nelsons Navy and Heritage Series kits are static models.

In 1999 the manufacturing rights to Aerokits was also acquired and the 46" Sea Queen is now available and the 34" Sea Commander is currently in development!

We also produce a large range of accessories and these will be added to our web pages continually.

In addition to it's own manufacturing, JoTiKa also distributes products from Klaus Krick, Marten Howes and Baylis and HFM Marine among others.

Thank you for sharing. I was wanting to buy this kit as well and hope to build it one day soon.

Hi you will enjoy building this kit it is quite a monster though
I like Jokita kits because they use high quality materials that are all cnc routed so none of the dreaded laser burn
Yes, I agree with your opinion about Jotika kits. I built several in the past and they are from quality and instructions on the top edge of the manufacturer.
Unfortunately since some years they do not have any new release....

yes its a shame I think that they are still in business but nothing has changed on their website for years they are still just about to release a new kit and have been for the past few years
